Formed in 2014, the NT Frack-free Alliance aims to connect and amplify the voices of landholders, communities and civil society groups concerned about gas fracking proposals across the Northern Territory.
The Alliance has provided a forum for sharing of knowledge, skills and experience. It has provided an opportunity for impacted regions to come together to protect country and culture from fracking gasfields.
So far, together we have seen the successful cancellation of permits in national parks. Total petroleum exploration acreage has decreased from 83% to 51% of the Territory landmass. Thousands of Territorians mobilised to take part in the NT Fracking Inquiry. We have lobbied decision-makers for a fracking ban. We've conducted door to door surveys on fracking in our communities.
